History:

Alibaug's history dates back to the 17th century when it was developed by Sarkhel Kanhoji Angre, the naval chief of Shivaji Maharaj's Maratha kingdom. Angre established Alibaug as a strategic naval base, and the town played a significant role in the Maratha empire's maritime defense. Kolaba Fort, located just off the coast, stands as a testament to this historical period. The fort witnessed several naval battles and served as a crucial stronghold.
