History:
Phansad Wildlife Sanctuary was established in 1986 to conserve the coastal woodland ecosystem of the region. The area was once part of the private hunting reserve of the erstwhile princely state of Murud-Janjira. Recognizing the ecological significance of the forest, the Maharashtra Forest Department took steps to protect it from deforestation and poaching. Over the years, the sanctuary has become an important conservation area, providing a safe habitat for various endangered species. Efforts are continuously being made to improve the habitat, manage the wildlife population, and promote eco-tourism in a sustainable manner.
