History:

Haflong's history is intertwined with the Dimasa kingdom, which once held sway over the region. The town's name is believed to be derived from 'Haflau,' meaning 'ant hill' in the Dimasa language. During British rule, Haflong was developed as a hill station and administrative center. It gained strategic importance due to its location and pleasant climate. Post-independence, Haflong became the headquarters of the Dima Hasao district. The town has witnessed significant socio-political changes, but its natural beauty and cultural heritage remain intact.

The nearest airport is Silchar Airport (IXS), about 100 km away. From Silchar, taxis and buses are available to reach Haflong. The nearest major railway station is Lumding Junction, around 100 km away. From Lumding, you can take a taxi or bus to Haflong. Road travel is also an option from Guwahati, which is approximately 330 km away.
