History:

Patiala's history dates back to 1763 when it was founded by Baba Ala Singh, a Jat Sikh chieftain. It quickly rose to prominence as the capital of the princely state of Patiala, one of the largest and most influential Sikh states in the region. The rulers of Patiala played a significant role in the politics of Punjab and maintained close ties with the British during the colonial era. The city witnessed numerous battles and political intrigues throughout its history. After India's independence in 1947, Patiala became part of the newly formed state of PEPSU (Patiala and East Punjab States Union) before being integrated into Punjab in 1956.
