The history of Gurdwara Dukh Nivaran Sahib is linked to the visit of Guru Tegh Bahadur, the ninth Sikh Guru, to the village of Lehal. According to local lore, the villagers approached the Guru with their woes, describing a mysterious disease that afflicted them. Guru Tegh Bahadur assured them that his presence would alleviate their suffering. He sat in meditation at the spot where the Gurdwara now stands, and the village was miraculously cured of the disease. In remembrance of this event, a small shrine was initially built. Later, Maharaja Karam Singh of Patiala constructed a magnificent Gurdwara at the site, which became known as Dukh Nivaran Sahib, meaning 'remover of suffering'.
