History:

Mukteshwar's history is intertwined with the legend of the Mukteshwar Temple, believed to be thousands of years old. According to local lore, Lord Shiva granted moksha (liberation) to a demon at this site, hence the name Mukteshwar. During the British Raj, the area was developed as a research and educational institute for veterinary science. The Imperial Bacteriological Laboratory, established in 1893, played a significant role in the development of veterinary medicine in India. The laboratory, now known as the Indian Veterinary Research Institute (IVRI), continues to be an important institution in the region. The colonial influence is still visible in the architecture of some of the buildings in Mukteshwar, adding to its historical charm.
