History:

Gulmarg's history dates back to the 16th century when Yusuf Shah Chak, the ruler of Kashmir, was captivated by its beauty and named it Gulmarg. During British rule, it became a popular summer escape for the elite. The development of skiing infrastructure in the 20th century transformed Gulmarg into a premier skiing destination. The construction of the gondola, connecting Gulmarg to Apharwat Peak, further enhanced its appeal for adventure tourism.

How to reach:

The nearest airport is Srinagar International Airport (SXR), about 56 km from Gulmarg. From the airport, taxis and pre-booked cabs are readily available. Regular bus services also operate between Srinagar and Gulmarg.
