History:
Constructed in 1777, the Writers' Building initially served as the office for junior clerks (writers) of the British East India Company. It was significantly expanded in subsequent years, evolving into a sprawling complex. The building played a pivotal role in British administration and witnessed significant historical events, including the famous assassination of Niranjan Ghosh by revolutionaries Benoy Basu, Badal Gupta, and Dinesh Gupta. Post-independence, it became the secretariat of the West Bengal government.
