History:
Kanvashram holds immense historical and mythological significance. According to ancient scriptures, it was the hermitage of Sage Kanva, where Shakuntala, abandoned by her mother Menaka, was raised. It was here that she met King Dushyant and they fell in love and secretly married. Their son, Bharat, the legendary emperor after whom India is named, was born and raised in Kanvashram. The story of Shakuntala and Dushyant, immortalized by Kalidas in his play 'Abhijnanashakuntalam,' is deeply intertwined with the history of this place.
