History:
The Asan Barrage was constructed in 1967 primarily for irrigation purposes. Over time, the reservoir created by the barrage transformed into a significant wetland habitat. The rich aquatic vegetation and abundant fish population attracted a large number of resident and migratory birds. Recognizing its ecological importance, the area was officially declared a bird sanctuary in 2005. Since then, efforts have been made to conserve and protect the sanctuary's biodiversity, including habitat management, anti-poaching measures, and awareness programs. The sanctuary has become an important stopover for birds migrating along the Central Asian Flyway.
