History:
Shri Radha Damodar Mandir holds immense historical significance within the Gaudiya Vaishnava tradition. It was established by Srila Jiva Goswami, a prominent disciple of Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu. The temple is particularly revered for housing the Giriraj Shila given to Srila Sanatana Goswami by Lord Krishna. Sanatana Goswami, unable to circumambulate Govardhan Hill due to old age, was blessed with this Shila, equivalent to Govardhan Hill itself. The temple became a center for scholarly pursuits and devotional practices. Over the centuries, the temple has been maintained and expanded by devotees, preserving the teachings and legacy of the Goswamis. The samadhis of prominent Vaishnava saints within the complex further add to its historical and spiritual importance.
