History:
Jetavana Monastery was donated to Lord Buddha by Anathapindika, a wealthy merchant of Shravasti. Anathapindika purchased the land from Prince Jeta (hence the name Jetavana) covering it with gold coins as payment. This act of devotion highlights the deep respect and support Buddha received from his followers. The monastery became a major center for Buddhist learning and practice during Buddha's time. It's believed that Buddha spent 19 rainy seasons here, delivering countless discourses that shaped Buddhist philosophy.
