The lush greenery and well-maintained enclosures provide a comfortable environment for both the animals and visitors. Lucknow Zoo offers a delightful experience for nature enthusiasts and families alike.
Lucknow Zoo was established in 1921 by the then Governor of the United Provinces, Sir Harcourt Butler, as Prince of Wales Zoological Gardens to commemorate the visit of the Prince of Wales, later King Edward VIII. Initially, the zoo housed a limited number of animals, primarily from the local region. Over the years, it expanded significantly, acquiring animals from different parts of India and the world. In 1969, the zoo was renamed as Nawab Wazid Ali Shah Prani Udyan in honor of the last Nawab of Awadh. The zoo has played a crucial role in wildlife conservation and education, contributing to the preservation of endangered species and raising public awareness about animal welfare.
