Neermahal, also known as the Lake Palace of Tripura, is a stunning architectural marvel situated in the middle of Rudrasagar Lake. History:
Neermahal was commissioned by Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Debbarman of the Manikya dynasty in 1930 and completed in 1938. He envisioned it as his summer residence and a symbol of his progressive vision. The palace was designed by British company Mackintosh Burn. The eastern side, known as the 'Andar Mahal', was reserved for the royal family, while the western side was used as an open-air theatre for cultural performances. After the Maharaja's death, the palace was opened to the public, and it has since become a major tourist attraction, showcasing Tripura's rich cultural heritage and architectural prowess. The palace stands as a reminder of the Maharaja's love for art, architecture, and his people.
