History:

Veerapandiya Kattabomman, a Palayakarrar (chieftain) from Panchalankurichi, challenged the authority of the British East India Company in the late 1700s. His refusal to pay taxes and his defiance of British demands led to a series of conflicts. Kattabomman organized local forces and engaged in guerilla warfare against the British. Despite his valiant efforts, he was eventually captured and publicly hanged in 1799. His execution only fueled the flames of resistance among the local population. The memorial hall was established to honor his legacy and preserve the history of his struggle against British rule. It stands as a testament to his unwavering commitment to his land and his people, inspiring generations with his story of bravery and sacrifice.
