History:
According to Hindu mythology, Jatayu, a demi-god in the form of a vulture, witnessed Ravana abducting Sita. He bravely intervened and fought Ravana to rescue her. Despite his valiant efforts, Jatayu was severely wounded in the battle and fell to the ground near Rameswaram. It is believed that this pond, now known as Jatayu Tirtham, marks the exact location where Jatayu breathed his last. Lord Rama and Lakshmana later found Jatayu, who informed them about Sita's abduction before passing away. Rama performed the final rites for Jatayu at this spot, sanctifying the area and establishing its significance as a holy site. Over time, a temple was built nearby to commemorate Jatayu's sacrifice and devotion to Rama.
