History:
Namakkal Fort is believed to have been built during the reign of the Gatti Mudalis rulers in the 16th century. Later, it came under the control of the Nayaks of Madurai. The fort played a significant role in the Mysore wars between the British and Tipu Sultan. Hyder Ali also held the fort for some time. The fort's strategic location made it a coveted possession for various rulers throughout history. Inside the fort, there are two rock-cut temples, one dedicated to Lord Narasimhaswamy and the other to Lord Anjaneyar, which are older than the fort itself.
