History:

Edward Elliot's Beach is named after Edward Elliot, who was the Chief Magistrate and Superintendent of Police during the British Raj. In the early 20th century, it was primarily frequented by the British. The Karl Schmidt Memorial, an important structure on the beach, was erected in memory of a Dutch sailor who lost his life saving others from drowning. Over time, the beach transitioned from a colonial-era haunt to a popular public space for Chennai residents. Today, it stands as a testament to the city's evolving culture, blending its colonial past with its vibrant present.
