The Chamunda Mata Temple's history is intertwined with the founding of Jodhpur and the Rathore dynasty. Rao Jodha, the founder of Jodhpur, brought the idol of Goddess Chamunda from the old capital of Mandore in 1460 and installed it in Mehrangarh Fort. The goddess is believed to be a fierce protector and has been worshipped by the royal family and the people of Jodhpur for centuries. In 2008, a tragic stampede occurred at the temple during Navratri, resulting in numerous fatalities. However, the temple has since been renovated and safety measures have been improved.
