Description:

Salim Singh Ki Haveli, also known as the Jahaz Mahal (Ship Mansion), is a unique architectural marvel in Jaisalmer. Unlike the traditional Havelis that are known for intricate carvings, this one stands out with its distinctive peacock-shaped roof and projecting balconies. The Haveli's facade resembles the stern of a ship, giving it its popular nickname. The vibrant blue cupola adds a splash of color to the golden landscape. While the interior might not be as elaborate as others, the exterior's grandeur and architectural uniqueness make it a must-visit for anyone exploring Jaisalmer. The narrow streets leading to the Haveli add to the charm of the experience. It represents a blend of Mughal and Rajputana architectural styles.

History:

Salim Singh Ki Haveli was built in the early 19th century by Salim Singh, the then Prime Minister of Jaisalmer. He was known for his power and influence, and the Haveli was intended to be even taller than the Maharaja's palace, but construction was halted under royal orders. Legend says that the Maharaja was threatened by the Haveli's size. The Haveli was originally intended to have two more stories, but only five were completed. The Haveli is also known for its 38 balconies, each with unique designs and carvings, although some have been damaged over time. The Haveli has been passed down through generations and is now maintained as a historical landmark.
