Description:

Baba Atal Rai Tower is a nine-story octagonal tower located in Amritsar, India, adjacent to the Harmandir Sahib (Golden Temple). It is the tallest building in Amritsar and offers panoramic views of the city and the Golden Temple complex. The tower is dedicated to Baba Atal Rai, the son of Guru Hargobind, the sixth Sikh Guru. Each floor represents a year of Baba Atal's life, who passed away at the young age of nine. The interior walls are adorned with frescoes and murals depicting scenes from Sikh history and the life of Baba Atal. Visitors can climb the stairs or take the elevator to the top floor for breathtaking views.

History:

Built in the late 18th century, the tower commemorates Baba Atal Rai, the son of Guru Hargobind, the sixth Sikh Guru. Baba Atal is revered for his piety and miraculous healing powers. Legend says he revived a friend, but then sacrificed his own life at the age of nine, adhering to the Sikh principle that death is inevitable. The tower's nine stories symbolize the nine years of his life. Originally a smaller structure, it was later expanded into its present form. The tower stands as a testament to Baba Atal's compassionate nature and serves as a place of reverence for Sikhs.
