History:
Debrigarh Wildlife Sanctuary was established in 1985, initially as a sanctuary for wild animals displaced by the construction of the Hirakud Dam in the 1950s. The dam's creation led to the submergence of vast tracts of forest, forcing many animals to seek refuge in the surrounding hills. Recognizing the need to protect these displaced populations, the government designated the area as a wildlife sanctuary. Over the years, Debrigarh has played a crucial role in conserving the region's biodiversity, with efforts focused on habitat restoration, anti-poaching measures, and community engagement.
