History:

Prithvi Theatre was founded by Shashi Kapoor and his wife Jennifer Kendal in 1978, continuing the legacy of Prithvi Theatres, a travelling theatre company established by Shashi's father, Prithviraj Kapoor, in 1944. The original Prithvi Theatres toured extensively across India, bringing theatre to a wide range of audiences. After Jennifer Kendal's passing, Shashi Kapoor's daughter, Sanjana Kapoor, took over the management of Prithvi Theatre, ensuring its continued success as a prominent cultural institution in Mumbai. The theatre has played a significant role in the development of Indian theatre, nurturing talent and providing a space for artistic expression.
