The dome is the world's largest unsupported stone dome and is built with interlocking stones without any cement or other binding agents. The Pagoda was inaugurated by the then President of India, Pratibha Patil, in 2009. It is a significant center for Vipassana meditation, a technique taught by Gautama Buddha.
