Jahaz Mahal, or the 'Ship Palace,' is a stunning architectural marvel located in Mandu, Madhya Pradesh. History:
Jahaz Mahal was constructed by Sultan Ghiyas-ud-din Khilji in the late 15th century, primarily as a harem for the Sultan and his many consorts. Ghiyas-ud-din was known for his extravagant lifestyle and penchant for pleasure. The palace's strategic location between two lakes provided not only scenic beauty but also a natural defense. The design incorporated elements of pre-existing Hindu architecture along with Islamic styles, showcasing the cultural synthesis prevalent during the period. After the decline of the Khilji dynasty, the palace witnessed changes in ownership and use but retained its architectural grandeur.
