History:
The Upper Lake, or Bada Talab, was created in the 11th century by Raja Bhoj, the Parmar ruler of Bhopal. Legend says that the king suffered from a skin disease, and a saint advised him to construct a tank by combining the waters of 365 rivers to cure it. The lake was thus created, and it is believed that bathing in its waters cured the king. An earthen dam was constructed to create the lake, which served as a primary source of drinking water for the city. Over the centuries, it has remained a vital part of Bhopal's ecosystem and identity. The lake has undergone several renovations and improvements over the years to maintain its beauty and functionality, ensuring its continued importance to the city.
