Gol Gumbaz is the mausoleum of Mohammed Adil Shah, the seventh sultan of the Adil Shahi dynasty. The tomb is the most imposing monument of Bijapur and is known for its architectural wonder, especially the whispering gallery which can amplify even the faintest of sounds. Built in the Deccan style of architecture, this grand structure is a sight to behold, with its massive dome, towering minarets, and intricate carvings. The acoustics inside the dome are incredible, and a whisper at one end can be heard clearly at the other.
Gol Gumbaz was built by the ruler of Bijapur, Mohammed Adil Shah, in the 17th century. He wanted a grand mausoleum for himself and his family, and the construction started in 1626. The architect of this masterpiece was Yaqut of Dabul. The construction of Gol Gumbaz took over 30 years to complete, finally ending in 1656. It is said that Mohammed Adil Shah himself couldn't witness the completion of his dream due to the war with the Mughals. Today, Gol Gumbaz stands as a testament to the architectural prowess of the bygone era and attracts visitors from all over the world.
