History:
Built by Tipu Sultan in 1784, Sultan Battery was a strategic naval watchtower designed to prevent British warships from entering the Gurupura River. It was an important part of Tipu Sultan's defense strategy along the coastline. The structure included a well-equipped arsenal and provided a vantage point to monitor maritime activity. After Tipu Sultan's defeat and death in 1799, the British took control of the region, including Sultan Battery. Over time, the battery fell into disrepair, with parts of the structure succumbing to the elements and neglect. Today, only remnants of the original fort remain, serving as a reminder of the historical conflicts and the strategic importance of Mangaluru's coastline.
