Kurudumale Ganesha Temple, located on a hillock near Kolar, is dedicated to Lord Ganesha. The temple is renowned for its massive, monolithic idol of Ganesha, believed to be self-manifested (Swayambhu). It is one of the largest Ganesha statues in Karnataka, standing at about 14 feet tall. The temple's serene atmosphere, surrounded by picturesque hills, attracts devotees and tourists seeking blessings and tranquility.
The Kurudumale Ganesha Temple is believed to date back to the Chola period (9th-12th century), with contributions and renovations from subsequent dynasties like the Vijayanagara and Hoysala empires. Legend has it that the idol of Ganesha was found by a shepherd who noticed his cows showering milk on a particular spot on the hill. Upon excavation, the massive idol was discovered, leading to the establishment of the temple.
