Badavi Linga is a monolithic Shiva Linga located in Hampi, India. It is one of the largest lingas in Hampi and is situated in a chamber that is constantly filled with water. The water level never seems to recede, even during the dry season, adding to the mystique of the place. The linga is housed within a modest shrine that is open on three sides, allowing visitors to get a close-up view of the impressive structure.
The Badavi Linga is believed to have been commissioned by a poor woman (Badavi in local language) during the reign of the Vijayanagara rulers. Legend has it that the linga was consecrated with just a single pot of water, highlighting the devotion and piety of the common people of the time. The shrine's architecture and the intricate carvings on the linga itself showcase the artistic brilliance of the Vijayanagara era.
