History:
Halebidu, meaning "old capital," served as the capital of the Hoysala Empire in the 12th century. Originally called Dwarasamudra, it was renamed Halebidu after being sacked twice by the Delhi Sultanate in the 14th century. The Hoysaleswara Temple, the town's main attraction, was constructed during the reign of King Vishnuvardhana but was never fully completed. The intricate carvings adorning the temple walls depict scenes from Hindu epics, showcasing the exceptional skill of Hoysala artisans.
