The Panchet Dam is a part of the Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC), a multipurpose river valley project conceived in post-independence India. Construction began in 1953 and was completed in 1959. The primary objective was to control floods in the Damodar River, which was notorious for causing widespread devastation. The dam also aimed to provide irrigation, generate electricity, and promote industrial and economic development in the region.
