Pari Mahal, also known as The Fairies' Abode, is a seven-terraced garden located on the Zabarwan mountain range overlooking Srinagar city and the Dal Lake. History:
Originally a Buddhist monastery, Pari Mahal was later converted into an observatory and astrology school by Dara Shikoh, the eldest son of Mughal emperor Shah Jahan, in the 17th century. He used it as a center for learning and research, particularly in astronomy and astrology. The terraces were designed to represent the seven heavens described in Islamic cosmology. After Dara Shikoh's execution, the site fell into disrepair but has since been restored and is now a popular tourist attraction managed by the Jammu and Kashmir Tourism Department. It serves as a reminder of the region's rich and layered history.
