Nishat Bagh, the 'Garden of Bliss,' is a terraced Mughal garden overlooking the stunning Dal Lake in Srinagar, Kashmir. Known for its exquisite beauty, the garden features twelve terraces representing the twelve zodiac signs, each adorned with vibrant flowerbeds, cascading fountains, and lush greenery. Chinar trees and cypress trees line the waterways, creating a serene and picturesque atmosphere. Visitors can enjoy panoramic views of the lake and surrounding mountains, making it a perfect spot for photography and relaxation. The central canal, fed by a fresh water spring, flows through the garden, adding to its charm.
Nishat Bagh was built in 1633 by Asif Khan, the elder brother of Nur Jahan, the wife of Mughal Emperor Jahangir. It is said that Jahangir was so envious of the garden's beauty that he temporarily seized it from Asif Khan. The garden's design incorporates elements of Persian and Islamic architecture, with its intricate water channels, fountains, and pavilions. Over the centuries, Nishat Bagh has witnessed the rise and fall of empires, but its timeless beauty continues to captivate visitors from around the world.
