History:

Nigeen Lake is believed to be a part of Dal Lake, separated by a causeway which now houses a road and gardens. Its name, meaning “jewel in the ring,” reflects its precious beauty. Historically, the lake served as a source of water for the city and a place for recreation for the Mughal emperors. Over time, houseboats became a popular feature, adding to the lake's charm. Today, while facing environmental challenges like pollution and encroachment, efforts are underway to preserve its pristine nature for future generations.
