Description:

Naggar Castle is a medieval castle, located in Kullu district's Naggar town. Built by Raja Sidh Singh of Kullu in around 1460 AD, it showcases a unique blend of European and Himalayan architecture. The castle, constructed with wood and stones, offers stunning views of the Beas valley. Now converted into a heritage hotel by the Himachal Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation (HPTDC), it provides a glimpse into the region's rich history and culture. Visitors can explore its intricate carvings, spacious rooms, and the on-site museum displaying regional artifacts. The castle's restaurant offers delicious local cuisine, and its peaceful ambiance makes it a perfect retreat.

History:

Naggar Castle served as the royal residence for over 1460 years. Constructed primarily of wood and stone, it reflects the architectural styles prevalent during the reign of Raja Sidh Singh. In the mid-17th century, Raja Jagat Singh shifted the capital to Sultanpur (Kullu), but the castle retained its importance. Later, it was occupied by the British and eventually transformed into a rest house before becoming the heritage hotel it is today. The castle stands as a testament to the region's historical transitions and architectural heritage.
