Description:

Khajiar, often referred to as the 'Mini Switzerland of India', is a picturesque hill station nestled in the Chamba district of Himachal Pradesh, near Dalhousie. Its stunning landscape features a lush green meadow, dense cedar and deodar forests, and the serene Khajiar Lake. The saucer-shaped meadow is surrounded by thick forests and snow-capped mountains, creating a breathtaking panorama. Activities like zorbing, paragliding, and horse riding are popular here. The Kalatop Wildlife Sanctuary nearby offers opportunities for nature walks and wildlife spotting. Khajiar's tranquil atmosphere and scenic beauty make it an ideal destination for a relaxing getaway.

History:

The history of Khajiar is intertwined with local legends and folklore. Some believe it was once submerged under a lake, while others connect it to the Pandavas from the Mahabharata epic. In the 10th century, the area was under the rule of the Chamba rulers. Its recognition as 'Mini Switzerland' came in 1992 when Willy T. Blazer, Vice Counselor and Head of Chancery of Switzerland, visited and put a sign declaring it as such, even calculating its distance from the Swiss capital, Bern. This event significantly boosted Khajiar's tourism profile.
