History:

The Akshardham complex in Gandhinagar was inaugurated in 1992, a project envisioned and realized by Pramukh Swami Maharaj, the spiritual leader of the Bochasanwasi Akshar Purushottam Swaminarayan Sanstha (BAPS). It was built as a tribute to Swaminarayan, the founder of the Swaminarayan Sampradaya. The creation of Akshardham involved thousands of artisans and volunteers who dedicated their skills and time to construct this monumental complex. The aim was to create a place where visitors could learn about Indian culture, spirituality, and the life and teachings of Swaminarayan. Over the years, it has become a major pilgrimage and tourist destination, attracting millions from around the world.
